Overview

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 replaces the GLS 600 as the flagship of the Maybach SUV range, sharing its body and platform with the standard Mercedes-Benz GLS but finished with Maybach-specific trim, badging and comfort equipment. It is built alongside the standard GLS at Mercedes-Benz’s Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant.

Power comes from an electrified 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, internally designated M177 EVO, paired with a second-generation 48-volt integrated starter generator. Mercedes-Maybach rates it at 603 hp and 850 Nm, a gain of 53 hp and 89 Nm over the outgoing GLS 600, with the mild-hybrid system adding a further 23 hp of temporary boost. AIRMATIC air suspension is standard, and the optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system reads the road ahead to pre-load the dampers.

Inside, the MBUX Superscreen combines three 12.3-inch displays with rose-gold dials, and the cabin runs on Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS software platform. The rear seats gain a new calf massage function alongside the existing multi-contour massage, and the audio system is a 15-speaker, 710-watt Burmester 3D Surround setup with Dolby Atmos. New Maybach Nappa leather is available in beech brown and macchiato beige, and an electric cabin air filter renews the interior air roughly every 90 seconds.

Outside, the GLS 680 gets a redesigned Maybach-specific grille with an illuminated outline and a subtly illuminated “MAYBACH” lettering within the frame, plus an optional illuminated upright Mercedes-Benz star on the bonnet, a first for a Maybach SUV in selected markets. Wheels run up to 23 inches, forged, with a self-leveling three-pointed-star center cap. Order books opened immediately in China, with US and European ordering following at the end of July 2026; Mercedes-Maybach has not announced pricing.
