Tata Motors Limited is India’s largest automaker, founded in 1945 and headquartered in Mumbai as part of the Tata Group conglomerate. It builds the full spread of road vehicles - passenger hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs, trucks and buses - and is the company that put India’s commercial-vehicle industry on its feet.
In the passenger market Tata has become the dominant force in electric cars, holding the largest share of India’s EV sales through models like the Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Punch EV. Its EVs use the in-house Acti.ev architecture, a dedicated electric platform designed to scale across battery sizes and body styles.
Tata Motors also owns Jaguar Land Rover, which it acquired in 2008, giving the group a premium arm alongside its mass-market Indian lineup. The brand’s strategy leans on reviving familiar nameplates - the Sierra among them - as it pushes deeper into electrification.
