Croatia’s standing in the car industry rests on one company. Rimac, founded at Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb in 2009, builds the Nevera hypercar, supplies batteries and electric drivetrains to other manufacturers through its Rimac Technology arm, and since 2021 has led Bugatti Rimac, the joint venture that took over Bugatti with Porsche as minority partner. A Croatian firm controlling a French marque is the reverse of how ownership usually runs in this part of Europe. The same group also develops Verne, a driverless passenger vehicle intended for city fleets rather than private sale.
