Jeep has opened US orders for the Recon EV, its first fully electric off-roader and the first battery-electric model to carry the brand’s Trail Rated certification. Only the range-topping Moab configuration is orderable so far; Jeep has not published pricing or specs for any lower trim.
The Moab pairs two electric motors driving all four wheels for a combined 650 hp and 840 Nm of torque, drawing on a 100.5 kWh battery. Jeep quotes a 3.6-second 0-60 mph time and an EPA-rated range of 222 miles (357 km), lower than the figure Jeep had originally signaled for the model. Maximum tow rating is 1,497 kg.
Off-road hardware follows Jeep’s Wrangler playbook: doors and side windows remove without tools, and a folding fabric Sky One-Touch roof stands in for a removable hardtop. The Selec-Terrain system adjusts drive modes for different surfaces, and the Trail Rated badge signals the same off-road validation Jeep applies to the Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid, which the Recon EV is sold alongside rather than replacing.
Pricing starts at $66,995 in the United States, positioning the Recon EV against the Rivian R1S and Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ. At a similar price point, though, the Recon EV’s EPA range trails both rivals.
