USATwo Mercedes-AMG owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz in a US District Court in California, alleging that the metal AMG emblem built into the driver’s seatback heats up in sunlight and can burn skin on contact.
One plaintiff, Gabriel Lahijani, says he was burned on May 31 after getting into his 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class while wearing a tank top, and that a dermatologist later documented first- and second-degree burns whose shape matched the AMG logo. A second plaintiff, Karendeep Bath, says she suffered a similar injury about six weeks later, with a mark in the shape of part of the emblem appearing on her shoulder after a drive.
The suit alleges the metal logo is a design defect and seeks compensation for medical costs and other damages, plus an order requiring Mercedes to cover the cost of removing the emblem from other owners’ cars.
The lawsuit is an allegation, not a finding of a defect, and the claims have yet to be tested in court. Mercedes-Benz had not publicly commented on the case as of publication.
