BYD's ultra-premium brand, launched in January 2023 to sell above one million yuan - the price band BYD's own badge had never entered. Four models so far: the U8 off-road SUV, its long-wheelbase U8L derivative, the U9 electric supercar and the U7 luxury sedan.
The Yangwang U8L is the long-wheelbase version of BYD's flagship off-road SUV, sold in China only. A 2.0-litre turbo engine works purely as a generator for four wheel-mounted motors making 1,196 hp. Six-seat Dingshi Edition from ¥1,280,000, four-seat Dingcang Edition from ¥1,458,000.
The Dingcang Edition drops the U8L's third row for two armchairs that recline to 150 degrees, adds a 21.4-inch ceiling screen and two refrigerators, and costs ¥1,458,000 ($216,000). The range-extended powertrain is unchanged at 1,196 hp, with a slightly larger battery good for 230 km of electric CLTC range.
BYD's FangChengBao Tai 7 expands its lineup with new BEV versions, joining the existing PHEV range. Electric variants offer up to 700 hp (AWD), with the largest battery option of 105.7 kWh delivering up to 755 km CLTC. BEV pricing starts from ¥199,800 ($29,400).
Yangwang is BYD’s ultra-premium brand, introduced in January 2023 to sell cars above one million yuan (about $140,000) - a band the BYD badge itself had never entered. It sits above Denza and Fangchengbao in the group’s structure and runs its own direct-to-consumer stores rather than sharing BYD’s dealer network.
The technical argument for the brand is the e4 platform, which gives each wheel an independently controlled motor. Four motors mean torque can be sent to one corner or reversed at another, which is how a Yangwang turns on the spot, moves sideways out of a parking space, or stays straight through a blowout at motorway speed. The U8 adds an emergency flotation mode that keeps the sealed body afloat for around half an hour.
The range covers four cars. The U8 is a range-extended off-road SUV, joined in 2025 by the longer U8L, which stretches the wheelbase by 200 mm for a six-seat executive cabin and, from August 2026, a four-seat version. The U9 is a battery-electric supercar with the DiSus-X active suspension that can drive on three wheels. The U7 is a full-size luxury sedan offered as both a plug-in hybrid and a BEV.
