BMW now offers the M2 with all-wheel drive, the first time the smallest M coupe has had it. The car also gets an updated S58 engine with prechamber ignition, added to meet Euro 7 limits. Orders are open.
Powertrain. The 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six makes 480 hp and 600 Nm through an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic. Peak torque now arrives at 2200 rpm rather than 2650, and compression rises to 10.5 from 9.3.
Drive. M xDrive runs through a multi-plate clutch and stays rear-biased. The front axle only takes drive when the rear wheels start to slip, and there is an active differential at the rear. The front axle can also be switched off completely, leaving the car rear-drive for drifts.
Performance. 0-100 km/h takes 3.7 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the rear-drive M2. Top speed is 250 km/h, rising to 285 km/h with the M Driver’s Package. All-wheel drive adds 60 kg, taking curb weight to 1790 kg.
Prices start at €81,300, only €3000 more than the rear-drive automatic.
