USATwo Mercedes-AMG owners have filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz in California, alleging that the metal AMG emblem set into the seatback gets hot enough in the sun to burn skin on contact.
One plaintiff says they got into their 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class on May 31 wearing a tank top and suffered a second-degree burn where their back touched the badge. A dermatologist who examined the injury recorded first- and second-degree burns in the shape of the AMG logo.
About six weeks later, a second owner reported a similar injury: a mark in the shape of part of the emblem appeared on her shoulder after a drive.
The suit calls the metal badge a design defect and seeks compensation for medical costs and other damages. It also asks the court to require Mercedes to cover the cost of removing the emblem from other owners’ cars.
The filing is an allegation, not a finding of fault, and the claims have yet to be tested in court. Mercedes-Benz had not publicly commented on the lawsuit as of publication.
