Nissan’s Smyrna Assembly Plant sits about 20 miles south-east of Nashville in Smyrna, Tennessee, and was the company’s first vehicle factory in the United States. Construction started in February 1981 and the first truck came off the line on 16 June 1983. The site covers 884 acres with roughly 6.4 million square feet of production space, employs around 8,400 people and is rated at 640,000 vehicles a year, which makes it the largest plant Nissan operates anywhere.

Four models are built here today: the Rogue, the Murano, the Pathfinder and the Infiniti QX60. Murano assembly arrived in 2020, and the fourth-generation car has been built at Smyrna since December 2024. The Infiniti QX65 joins the line in 2026.

The plant’s back catalogue tracks Nissan’s whole American history. It started with the compact Nissan pickup, added the Sentra in 1985 and the Altima in 1993, and built the Frontier and Xterra through the 2000s. It also assembled the Leaf from 2013 until production ended in 2025, one of the first mass-market electric cars built in the United States.
