About

Acura is Honda’s luxury and performance division, headquartered in Torrance, California. It launched in March 1986 as the first Japanese premium automotive brand in North America, built to compete with the European luxury makers and, later, Toyota’s Lexus and Nissan’s Infiniti.

The current lineup centers on the MDX and RDX SUVs alongside the TLX sedan and Integra hatchback, sold mainly in the United States, Canada and China. In most other markets, including Japan, equivalent vehicles are sold as Hondas rather than under the Acura name. Acura’s Type S trims carry the brand’s performance flagship positioning, a role once held by the NSX supercar.

Acura remains wholly owned by Honda and has never been spun off or sold. The brand has begun expanding beyond gasoline and hybrid power with the ZDX, its first battery-electric model, developed jointly with General Motors and built in the US.
