The Seal 08 is BYD’s new flagship sedan for the Ocean sub-brand, sitting above the Seal in China’s lineup at 5,150 mm long. It launched with five powertrain variants split across plug-in hybrid (DM-i) and battery-electric (EV) forms, built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture.
The DM-i range uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor. The front-wheel-drive Premium and Flagship trims produce 272 hp from a 45.36 kWh battery, giving 400 km of electric-only range and 1,660 km combined. A DM-i 4WD Flagship adds a second motor for all-wheel drive, reaching 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds with 350 km of electric range and 1,000 km combined.
The EV range runs on an 800V electrical architecture across all three trims. The Premium trim produces 347 hp from a 76.7 kWh battery for 775 km of range, the Flagship steps up to 435 hp and a 92 kWh battery for 905 km, and the 4WD Flagship tops the lineup with 694 hp and a 3.3-second 0-100 km/h time, at 785 km of range.
Every trim gets rear-wheel steering and BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, plus the God’s Eye lidar-based driver-assistance suite. Pricing in China runs from ¥196,900 to ¥239,900 ($29,000 - $35,350).
