BYD launched the Seal 08 in China, a new flagship sedan for its Ocean sub-brand that slots above the existing Seal. It measures 5,150 mm long and comes in five powertrain variants split between plug-in hybrid (DM-i) and battery-electric (EV) forms, all on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture.
The DM-i range pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor. The front-wheel-drive Premium and Flagship trims make 272 hp from a 45.36 kWh battery, for 400 km of electric-only range and 1,660 km combined. A DM-i 4WD Flagship adds a second motor for all-wheel drive, reaching 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds with 350 km of electric range and 1,000 km combined.
The EV range runs on an 800V architecture across its three trims. The Premium makes 347 hp from a 76.7 kWh battery for 775 km of range; the Flagship steps up to 435 hp and a 92 kWh battery for 905 km; the 4WD Flagship tops the lineup at 694 hp, a 3.3-second 0-100 km/h time, and 785 km of range.
Every trim gets rear-wheel steering, BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, and the lidar-equipped God’s Eye driver-assistance suite as standard. Prices in China run from 196,900 to 239,900 yuan ($29,000 to $35,350). No markets outside China have been announced.
