The Rivian R2 is the third production model from the American EV maker and its first car aimed at the mass market. It is built on the new Mid-Size Platform (MSP) at Rivian’s factory in Normal, Illinois, where customer deliveries began in June 2026. At 4,722 mm long on a 2,935 mm wheelbase, with 244 mm of ground clearance, the R2 is a mid-size SUV that sits below the larger R1S in both size and price.
Three powertrains are offered. The Standard uses a single motor (rear- or all-wheel drive) for 350 hp and 481 Nm, and Rivian quotes a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) time of 5.9 seconds with up to 555 km (345 mi) of EPA range. The Premium Dual Motor adds all-wheel drive for 450 hp, 728 Nm, and 4.6 seconds to 60 mph. The Performance Dual Motor tops the range at 656 hp and 826 Nm, reaching 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Both dual-motor versions are rated at up to 531 km (330 mi) of range. A native NACS port gives access to the Tesla Supercharger network, and Rivian quotes a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 30 minutes.
Inside, the R2 seats five and adds a fully folding second row, a panoramic roof, and a new steering wheel with Rivian’s tactile Halo controls. Rivian fits the car with numerous hidden storage compartments and a front trunk. Driver assistance runs on the Autonomy+ system, which uses 11 cameras and 5 radars, and the car receives over-the-air software updates.
The exterior keeps Rivian’s signature oval headlights, with frameless door glass, short overhangs, and a separately opening rear window. Wheels range from 19 to 21 inches. US pricing opens at $48,490 for the Standard Long Range, rises to $53,990 for the Premium AWD, and reaches $57,990 for the Performance Launch Edition.
