Bufori builds each CS8 in over 9,000 man-hours. That is the figure the Malaysian company puts on the grand tourer it launched in August 2025 and has now signed off in final specification, with a demonstrator running for customer test drives and first deliveries due in the first quarter of 2027. The price is RM2,188,000 (about $543,000) on the road without insurance.

Almost no carmaker publishes a man-hours figure, which is what makes this one worth quoting: it puts a number on what “hand-built” means at a workshop in Kepong, a district of Kuala Lumpur, that is rated for up to 300 cars a year.

The body is the chassis

The CS8’s structure is a carbon-fibre and Kevlar hybrid composite monocoque, a construction Bufori has used since 1989. The stainless steel frame inside the car provides mounting points rather than carrying loads, and the roof has a roll cage laid into it. Bufori targets an unladen weight of 1,450 kg; its own published specification currently lists 1,550 kg, varying with how a car is configured.

A large share of the 9,000 hours goes into things most low-volume makers buy in. Bufori lays up its own bodywork, builds each car’s wiring harness by hand, and makes its own control units and circuit boards, writing the software that runs on them.

Five engines, one price

The headline engine is a 6.4-litre Hemi-derived V8 that Bufori strips, blueprints and rebuilds with forged internals and a supercharger: 810 hp, or 750 hp measured at the wheels, and 973 Nm at 4,800 rpm. It drives the rear wheels through a ZF eight-speed torque-converter automatic and a limited-slip differential, with a manual gearbox available on request. The 0-100 km/h time is 3.0 seconds and top speed an electronically limited 330 km/h, according to Bufori.

Buyers can also order a 550 hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo, a naturally aspirated 6.4-litre V8 with 475 hp, a supercharged 3.6-litre V6 with 455 hp, or a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 with 320 hp. The RM2.188 million price is the same whichever one is fitted.

The company behind it

Bufori was founded in 1986 in Sydney by three brothers, Anthony, George and Gerry Khouri, and moved manufacturing to Malaysia in 1998. It has been building composite-bodied cars ever since, currently the MKVI Geneva saloon alongside the CS8. The CS8 itself traces back to a 2009 race-car concept and was shown as a running prototype in 2019, with a wheelbase 350 mm longer on the production version.

Orders are in hand, most of them placed within Malaysia, according to the company.
