Spyker showed a new car at The Quail on 14 August, during Monterey Car Week. The C8 Preliator XXV is a mid-engined coupe limited to 25 examples at about 1.5 million euros each, and it is the first car the Dutch company has produced since a court declared it bankrupt in January 2021.
The name has been through more corporate history than most, so it is worth being clear about which Spyker this is.
What the company is now
The Spijker brothers built carriages in Amsterdam from 1880 and cars from 1898, and that firm stopped trading in 1926. Victor Muller and Maarten de Bruijn revived the name in 1999 for a new company, which listed in Amsterdam in 2004, ran a Formula 1 team in 2007, and bought Saab Automobile from General Motors in 2010. Saab went bankrupt the following year. The car business was declared bankrupt in December 2014, restructured within seven months, and declared bankrupt again in January 2021.
What followed the second bankruptcy was a four-year dispute with the trustee, who sought more than 3 million euros from Muller personally over the running of the company. That ended in a settlement in October 2025 which paid 350,000 euros into the estate and returned two Spyker subsidiaries, and with them the brand, to Muller.
The funding for the new car arrived in June 2026, when Volodymyr Nosov, founder of the fintech group W Group and the crypto exchange WhiteBIT, bought what both sides described as a significant stake and became co-owner. Neither the size of the stake nor the sum was disclosed. Nosov commissioned the first car.
The car
The C8 Preliator XXV keeps the shape and the method Spyker has used since 2000: an aluminium spaceframe, hand-formed aluminium panels, and the manual gearbox linkage left exposed between the seats. Panels are made by Coventry Prototype Panels in England; painting and assembly are done in the Netherlands.
The engine is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 of Audi origin, reworked by Abt, quoted at 800 PS and 1,000 Nm. In the measure used in Britain and the United States that is 789 hp. The six-speed manual is the only gearbox, there is no electrification, and Spyker claims 2.7 seconds to 100 km/h and more than 350 km/h. Dry weight is 1,525 kg and the company puts about 2,100 hours of work into each car.
Nineteen of the 25 were claimed as sold during Monterey week, a figure the company has not documented. The remaining cars were scheduled to be built through the rest of 2026.
