Ford is putting a factory stamp on a look Explorer ST owners have been building themselves for years. The automaker unveiled the Sinister package for the 2027 Explorer ST, a $1,695 appearance option that blacks out the SUV without touching anything mechanical.
The package swaps in darkened ST badges, amber daytime running lights, and 21-inch gloss-black wheels for a cohesive blacked-out look. Unlike most factory blackout treatments, it isn’t tied to a black paint job - buyers can pair Sinister with any standard Explorer ST exterior color.
Underneath, the Explorer ST carries on unchanged: a 3.0-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 rated at 385 horsepower, sport-tuned suspension, and standard all-wheel drive. Sinister is purely cosmetic.
The move formalizes a trend Ford has watched play out in the aftermarket for years, where ST owners routinely blackout trim and swap wheels on their own. Offering the same look from the factory, backed by warranty, lets Ford capture that spending instead of ceding it to third-party shops.
