Chery Jaguar Land Rover has revealed the interior of the Freelander 8, the first production model of its new Freelander sub-brand. It is not a revived Land Rover Freelander in the old sense, but a standalone Chinese NEV lineup - the cars are built on Chery platforms with JLR contributing to the design.
The SUV gets a three-row, six-seat cabin. Up front, a 46.3-inch panoramic 8K display spans nearly the full width of the dashboard, paired with a separate 15.6-inch central touchscreen, physical switchgear with metal trim, and two crystal-effect rotary controllers.
Underneath, the Freelander 8 uses an 800V architecture, adaptive air suspension, four-wheel steering and a series plug-in hybrid powertrain. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at 156 hp works purely as a generator, feeding a 60.33 kWh CATL battery; output figures for the drive motors have not been disclosed.
The SUV measures 5,118 to 5,185 mm in length depending on variant, 2,050 mm wide, 1,898 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Technology includes Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5.0 driver assistance, an 896-channel lidar, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip and the i-ATS off-road system. The Freelander 8 is due to go on sale in China before the end of 2026, with export to markets including Europe planned for later.
