USAHonda has officially confirmed that the Prologue is leaving the US market. Sales will continue until dealers sell through remaining stock, which Honda expects to run into early 2027.
An unlikely candidate for the axe
On the surface, the decision looks surprising. The Prologue only debuted in 2024, and it went on to sell more than 80,000 units, making it Honda’s best-selling electric vehicle in history. But the car was never a from-scratch Honda design: it shares General Motors’ Ultium platform and is built at a GM plant in Mexico, under a joint EV development program between the two automakers that has now wrapped up. With that partnership over, Honda has no in-house successor lined up to replace it.
Demand fell fast
The timing was made worse by a sharp drop in demand. After the federal tax credit for EV purchases was removed, US Prologue sales fell nearly 50% year over year in the first half of 2026. The Prologue’s exit follows Honda’s decision to wind down its own 0 Series electric line, and the company is now leaning more heavily on hybrids to carry its US electrification push.
The Honda Prologue is a mid-size electric SUV sold in the US from 2024. It shares GM's Ultium platform and is built at a General Motors plant in Mexico. Front-wheel-drive cars make 220 hp with an EPA range up to 308 miles; all-wheel-drive cars make 300 hp. All trims use an 85 kWh battery. Honda is discontinuing US sales, with deliveries continuing into early 2027 as dealer stock sells through.
