Kia has revealed the 2027 Niro refresh for the US market, and the lineup change is bigger than the styling update: the EV and PHEV versions are gone, leaving the hybrid as the only Niro Americans can buy.
The HEV keeps its familiar formula, a 1.6-liter GDI engine paired with an electric motor through a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, now rated at 139 hp combined. Kia is not selling a Niro EV or Niro PHEV in the US going forward. That electric role in Kia’s US crossover lineup shifts to the EV3.
Outside the powertrain, the 2027 Niro gets new front and rear bumpers, vertical Star Map lighting front and rear, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with an updated driver-assist suite that adds Highway Driving Assist 2.

The move mirrors what Kia already did with the Niro in Europe, where the lineup was trimmed to HEV-only earlier this year. Splitting the electric and hybrid crossover roles between the EV3 and a hybrid-only Niro simplifies Kia’s US lineup rather than asking one model to cover every powertrain.
