MG opened pre-sales for the 07 on 29 July with five battery-electric trims, and the price our reveal coverage said would follow has arrived. It runs from ¥125,900 to ¥165,900, or roughly $18,600 to $24,500.

The new battery is in the cheap cars
The MG 07’s headline technology is a semi-solid-state pack from QingTao Energy, a battery maker SAIC has invested in. Semi-solid-state cells replace most of the liquid electrolyte with a gel or solid phase, which is generally pitched as a route to higher energy density and better thermal behaviour, and it is the kind of specification that usually appears at the top of a range first.
Here it does the opposite. The 67 kWh QingTao pack is fitted to the ¥125,900 650 Comfort and the two ¥135,900 and ¥145,900 610 trims, and it tops out at 650 km. The 845 km versions, the ones people will quote, run a conventional 91 kWh CATL ternary lithium pack. The new chemistry is in the entry cars and it does not win the range contest, which is a more honest picture of where semi-solid-state technology currently sits than a headline figure suggests.
The two pack choices bring different electrical architectures with them. The 67 kWh cars are 400V with 3C peak charging, quoted at about 20 minutes from 30 to 80 percent, and reach 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The 91 kWh cars are 800V with 5C charging, 12 minutes for the same window, and 5.9 seconds. All range figures are CLTC, the Chinese cycle, which reads higher than WLTP or EPA testing.
First MG with lidar
Every trim except the base 650 Comfort carries a roof-mounted lidar and 11 exterior cameras running Momenta’s R7 driver-assistance software. The 650 Comfort uses a camera-only system on a Horizon Robotics Journey J6B chip. All five get a 15.6-inch 2.5K central screen, an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 21-speaker audio system and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295P processor.
MG reported 21,000 reservations in the first 20 hours. That number is worth handling carefully. A Chinese pre-sale reservation is typically a small, refundable deposit that reserves a place in the queue and commits the buyer to nothing; it is a measure of interest, not of orders, and certainly not of deliveries. The figure that will matter is how many of those convert once the official launch sets final prices.
That launch comes in late August. Deliveries of the 610 and 650 versions start at the end of the month, with the 845 km cars following in early October. A plug-in hybrid 07 has also been shown, using a 1.5-litre engine and a 30 kWh battery for a claimed 185 km of electric range, but it was not part of the pre-sale and has no price yet.

The MG RX9 is a three-row SUV sold across the Middle East, Australia and now Europe, badged Roewe RX9 in its home market of China. A 2.0-litre turbo four makes 204 hp and 350 Nm through a 9-speed automatic, with front- or all-wheel drive depending on trim.
