Volkswagen has introduced a Good-Night package for the electric ID. Buzz that turns the minivan into a simple camper for nights outdoors. Unlike full motorhomes built on other VW vans, it skips the heavy fitted furniture and the kitchenette, leaning instead on light kit and the van’s own traction battery.
The package centres on a bed frame mounted over the rear seats and a folding mattress measuring 2.0 by 1.2 metres. Blackout blinds cover the windows, vent screens fit the front side windows for airflow, and a folding table and a pair of chairs round out the camping gear.
The electric side is where the ID. Buzz differs from a conventional camper. Its vehicle-to-load function turns the van into a mobile power station, delivering 230 volts at up to 2,000 watts - enough for a portable fridge, a coffee machine, an induction hob or an e-bike charger. A dedicated Overnight mode lets the traction battery run the climate control for up to 48 hours, holding warmth in winter and cool air in summer while shutting off unnecessary lighting to keep consumption down for an undisturbed night.
The Good-Night package costs €2,600 (about $2,830) in Germany.
