About
Rimac was founded by Mate Rimac in 2009 in Sveta Nedelja, near Zagreb, starting as an electric-vehicle conversion shop before building its first hypercar, the Concept One. Its second car, the Nevera, launched in 2021 as a four-motor electric hypercar with 1,914 hp, and cemented Rimac as a maker of some of the fastest production cars in the world.
The company grew into Rimac Group, which now spans Rimac Automobili (hypercars), Rimac Technology (batteries, drivetrains and software supplied to other automakers, including Porsche and Hyundai) and, since 2021, a majority stake in Bugatti Rimac, the joint venture that owns Bugatti. In September 2026, a consortium led by HOF Capital and BlueFive Capital bought out Porsche’s remaining stakes in both Rimac Group and Bugatti Rimac, ending Volkswagen and Porsche’s ownership connection to Bugatti entirely and leaving Rimac Group in full control. Rimac founder Mate Rimac became Bugatti’s president as part of the deal.
Rimac Group is privately held, based at the Rimac Campus in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, where the Nevera and Nevera R are built alongside the company’s battery and drivetrain manufacturing lines.
