What the Mission S is
The Mission S is a concept that Porsche showed on 15 October 2026 on a pier in Queens, New York, the spot where the first pictures of the mid-engined 550 Spyder were taken in 1953. Porsche presents it as a vision model for its evolving design language, and as the first look at a new mid-engined super sports car platform that sits above the 911.
Porsche says that platform is a permanent addition to its range, not a one-off hypercar. The concept’s engine sits in the centre of the car, but Porsche has published no engine, output, weight, dimensions, performance figures or price.
Design
Porsche ties each part of the exterior to an earlier car. The round headlights and fenders refer to the 911, the shut lines that run into the light graphics to the G model, and the flat front and the car-in-car rear to the GT1. The roofline under the rear wing refers to the 959, the cooling solution to the radiator fan of the 917, and the wheels to the dial design of the 928. The rear wing is fully integrated and active. The show car is painted Firn White Metallic with Light Red Metallic and Black Chrome details.
Interior
The cabin is built around five round instruments behind the steering wheel, with an analogue rev counter in the middle. Porsche says the rev counter moves closer to the driver depending on the drive mode. Push-pull controls in the dashboard give direct access to comfort and driving functions, and classic switches and buttons sit alongside modern displays. There is no built-in centre display. The My Porsche App lets the owner pick digitally rendered, historically inspired instrument designs.
Powertrain and timing
Porsche’s release states no powertrain for the concept. Michael Leiters, Porsche’s chairman, told Autocar that the platform has the flexibility to take full internal combustion, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains and that it will not take an electric one. Porsche has not given a date or a price for a production car.
