Porsche unveiled the Mission S concept on 15 October 2026 and said it previews a new mid-engined super sports car platform. The platform sits above the 911, and Porsche says it will be a permanent part of the range rather than a limited run. The car on show is a vision model: Porsche has published no engine, power, performance figures or price.

A permanent line above the 911

Michael Leiters, chairman of the executive board of Porsche, described the platform as “a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering”, not a one-off hypercar. Porsche says it is planning a permanently available super sports car offer above the 911 for the first time. The reveal took place on a pier in Queens, New York, where the first pictures of the mid-engined 550 Spyder were taken in 1953. It comes under the company’s Sportwagenschmiede ‘35 realignment.

What the platform will and will not carry

Porsche’s release names no powertrain. Leiters told Autocar that the platform can take full internal combustion, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains: “There won’t be an EV on that platform because there is no demand in the segment for EV yet.” Car and Driver reports that Porsche told it the same, adding that the line will have no fully electric version.

That rules out the route Porsche showed in 2023 with the electric Mission X concept, a project Autocar says has since been scrapped because demand for high-end electric sports cars is limited. Which of the combustion and hybrid options the production car gets is still open, and Porsche has given no date for it.

Design and cabin

Porsche ties the exterior to its own history. The round headlights and fenders refer to the 911, the flat front and the car-in-car rear to the GT1, the roofline under the rear wing to the 959, the cooling solution to the 917’s radiator fan and the wheels to the 928’s dial design. The rear wing is fully integrated and active.
