Overview

The V8X is the second model on Great Wall’s Global One S platform after the larger V9X, and it is Wey’s five-seat flagship. It is sold in China in two wheelbase series that share a body but not a footprint: the Sport cars measure 5,040 mm long on a 2,968 mm wheelbase, while the Family cars stretch to 5,125 mm on a 3,050 mm wheelbase. Both seat five, so the longer car spends its extra 85 mm on cabin and luggage space instead of a third row.

Every version is a plug-in hybrid running Great Wall’s Hi4 system on an 800 V electrical architecture. A turbocharged engine works with a front motor and a rear motor through a dedicated four-speed hybrid transmission, where most plug-in hybrids use one or two ratios. Three trims use a 1.5-litre turbo, and the Sport Ultra and Family Ultra+ use a 2.0-litre. System output ranges from 590 hp and 722 Nm at the bottom of the range to 684 hp on the Sport Ultra, with 0-100 km/h times between 5.2 and 4.5 seconds.

The battery is what separates the trims most. Three different packs are fitted: a 42.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate unit good for 258 to 261 km of CLTC electric range, a 53.6 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack for 324 km, and a 66.6 kWh pack for 402 km on the two Family Ultra trims. The 800 V system supports 6C charging, which Great Wall quotes at nine minutes for 30 to 80 percent.

Prices run from 239,800 yuan (about $35,300) for the Sport Max to 315,800 yuan (about $46,500) for the Family Ultra+, with a launch promotion of 13,000 yuan off each trim. The V8X went on sale on 14 August 2026, three weeks after pre-orders opened.

Is the Wey V8X a plug-in hybrid or an electric car?
It is a plug-in hybrid. Every V8X carries a turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.5-litre unit on most trims and a 2.0-litre on the Sport Ultra and Family Ultra+, working with front and rear electric motors through Great Wall's Hi4 system. The engine can drive the wheels through a four-speed hybrid transmission rather than acting only as a generator, which is what separates the V8X from a range extender.
How far can the Wey V8X go on electric power alone?
Between 258 km and 402 km on China's CLTC cycle, depending on the trim. The 42.8 kWh entry battery is certified for 258 to 261 km, the 53.6 kWh pack in the Sport Ultra for 324 km, and the 66.6 kWh pack in the two Family Ultra trims for 402 km. CLTC figures are measured on a more forgiving cycle than WLTP or EPA and do not convert directly.
What is the difference between the Wey V8X Sport and Family versions?
Wheelbase and length. The Sport cars are 5,040 mm long on a 2,968 mm wheelbase; the Family cars stretch to 5,125 mm on a 3,050 mm wheelbase. Both are five-seaters, so the extra length goes to cabin and load space rather than a third row, and the longest-range batteries are offered only on the Family side.
How much does the Wey V8X cost in China?
List prices run from 239,800 yuan (about $35,300) for the Sport Max to 315,800 yuan (about $46,500) for the Family Ultra+. Great Wall opened sales with a limited-time promotion of 13,000 yuan off each trim, which brings the entry price to 226,800 yuan (about $33,400) while the offer lasts.
