The BYD Atto 2 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid version of the subcompact Atto 2 SUV, sold in China as the Yuan Up DM-i. It measures 4,330 mm long on a 2,620 mm wheelbase, 20 mm longer than the pure-electric Atto 2 it is based on, with a revised front grille, bumper, and tailgate badging.
BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, rated at 43.04 percent thermal efficiency, with a front electric motor. The Active variant combines a 7.8 kWh Blade LFP battery with a 122 kW (164 hp) system output, while the Boost variant steps up to an 18 kWh battery and 156 kW (209 hp). Electric-only range runs 40 km on Active and 90 km on Boost, with combined range rated at up to 620 miles (WLTP) on the larger battery.
The DM-i launched first in Europe in November 2025, ahead of a planned rollout to Latin America and South Africa, rather than in China where the model is not currently confirmed. This mirrors BYD’s practice of pairing an existing EV nameplate with a hybrid counterpart built for markets less ready for a fully electric small SUV.
UK pricing runs from £26,995 for the Active to £29,995 for the Boost, positioning the Atto 2 DM-i as an entry point into BYD’s plug-in hybrid range alongside the larger Seal U DM-i and Song Plus DM-i.
