USADonald Trump has said he has no objection to Chinese car companies entering the US, provided they build their cars in American factories and hire local workers. He opposed the other route, building the cars in Mexico and importing them into the US.
Ford, GM and Stellantis answered through their lobby group, the American Automotive Policy Council. Its president, Matt Blunt, said Chinese companies benefit from state support and other non-market advantages, and that admitting them without further conditions could harm automakers, their workers and the regions where they build cars.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which counts most of the large automakers selling in the US among its members, had already asked Congress to write into law a permanent ban on the sale, import and production of Chinese connected vehicles in the country, along with the related software and hardware.
