Geely Auto said on 9 October that it is building a Canadian team and a retail and service network, with its first vehicles arriving in 2027. No models, powertrains or prices are named yet. Geely Auto announced in Toronto on 9 October 2026 that it plans to begin introducing its first vehicles to Canadian consumers in 2027. A Canadian team is already in place and the company is developing a retail and service network with local partners. Geely says models, pricing, availability and dealer locations will follow later on geely.ca.

What is and is not confirmed

Nothing about the cars is settled in public yet: no model, no powertrain, no price. Geely’s release gives group sales for 2025 of just over 3.02 million vehicles, including nearly 1.69 million new energy vehicles. These are Geely Auto Group figures, not the Geely Auto brand alone, and the release does not define “new energy”.

This is the Geely Auto brand’s own entry. Other Geely-group names are already sold in Canada through separate channels, including Polestar.

The tariff that makes it possible

Canada’s arrangement with China replaced the extra 100% duty on Chinese-built EVs with a quota of up to 49,000 vehicles a year at a 6.1% tariff, according to reports on the deal; imports above the quota still face the higher duty. Permits go to importers first-come, first-served through Global Affairs Canada, so Geely will be competing for the same limited allocation as every other Chinese maker.

The contrast with the US

The timing sits against the US moving the other way. The same week Polestar reported its last model-year 2026 sales, with new cars barred from model year 2027 over Geely’s control, as covered in Polestar’s US sales more than double before the ban. Canada is a Geely-linked market opening as a neighbouring one closes.
