About 35,000 of the revived Chevrolet Bolt will be built before production of the current car ends in the first quarter of 2027, Dontay Wilson, president of the UAW local at GM’s Fairfax, Kansas plant, told Reuters on 29 September. The plant had been on track for about 150,000, so the run is about 77% smaller.

GM did not confirm the figure. It told Reuters it continually assesses market dynamics and customer demand, and that production targets for limited-run vehicles can change in either direction.

The second-generation Bolt went into production in January 2026 and starts at $27,600, or $28,995 with the $1,395 destination charge. Chevrolet sold 791 in the first quarter and 3,433 in the second, 4,224 in the first half.

The car arrived after the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ended in 2025. GM took about $6 billion in EV-related losses that year.

Once Bolt production ends, Fairfax takes on two petrol crossovers: the Chevrolet Equinox, which GM is moving from Mexico, and the Buick Envision.
