Chevrolet Equinox platform and positioning
The Chevrolet Equinox is GM’s compact SUV, and the fourth generation arrived for the 2025 model year as a complete redesign. It is built at GM’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, next to the GMC Terrain, and went on sale in the middle of 2024. The Equinox EV is a separate car on a different platform and has its own page: Chevrolet Equinox EV.
The body grew 2.5 inches wider than the outgoing car, to 1,902 mm, on a 2,730 mm wheelbase and a length of 4,653 mm.
Chevrolet Equinox powertrain
Every Equinox uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with direct injection. It makes 175 hp at 5,600 rpm and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) in front-wheel-drive form, which pairs with a continuously variable transmission. All-wheel-drive cars take an eight-speed automatic and a higher 203 lb-ft (275 Nm). A Drive Mode Selector is standard; all-wheel drive adds an Off-Road mode.
The EPA rates the 2026 front-wheel-drive car at 26 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined. Towing is rated at 800 lb with front-wheel drive and 1,500 lb with all-wheel drive.
Inside the Chevrolet Equinox
An 11-inch driver display sits beside an 11.3-inch infotainment screen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto supported. A column-mounted electronic range selector frees up storage under the screen. Cargo space is 29.8 cu ft behind the rear seat and 63.5 cu ft with the split rear seat folded.
Chevy Safety Assist is standard, covering automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, lane keep assist and automatic high beams.
Chevrolet Equinox price and trims
The 2027 Equinox starts at $29,300 for the LT, before destination. The RS and the off-road-styled Activ both start at $34,200. The RS adds black mirrors and badging, 19-inch wheels and a flat-bottom steering wheel; the Activ gets all-terrain tires, a unique suspension tune and Evotex seating. The spec table lists front-wheel-drive prices; all-wheel drive is an option on each trim and is not broken out there.
