USAMitsubishi Motors North America has updated Momentum 2030, the business plan it published in 2024, and the headline number is the size of the range. The company sells four vehicles in the United States today: the Outlander, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, the Outlander Sport and the Eclipse Cross. By 2027 it expects six.
Two additions get it there. The first is the Eclipse Sportback, the brand’s first electric model for North America and a restyled version of the third-generation Nissan Leaf, which goes on sale this autumn. The second is an off-road version of the Outlander, arriving in the first quarter of 2027.
What the off-road Outlander is
Mitsubishi has not named it or shown it undisguised. What the company has committed to is off-road-specific bodywork, off-road drive modes, hardware described as performance upgrades, an enhanced version of the Super All-Wheel Control four-wheel-drive system, and its own interior materials. That is a step beyond the current Outlander Trail Edition, which is largely an appearance package; the new model builds on its graphics and adds the mechanical part.
No ground clearance figure, suspension specification or tyre size has been published. The timing has moved once: when the model was first announced, it was due late in 2026.
A mid-size pickup, with Nissan
Mitsubishi has stated that it intends to re-enter the mid-size pickup segment in North America, and that it will do so in collaboration with Nissan. That is the whole of the confirmation. No platform, no plant, no name and no date have been disclosed, and the company has not said which Nissan model, if any, the truck will share. Mitsubishi last sold a pickup in the United States in 2009, when the Raider was discontinued.
The Pajero nameplate is also returning, globally. Mitsubishi says no decision has been taken on whether it comes to the United States.
The teaser image released with the plan shows six vehicles, two of them lit: the Eclipse Sportback and the off-road Outlander. The four silhouettes behind them include two pickup shapes. Mitsubishi has not said what any of them are.
