Flat Rock Assembly Plant sits about 25 miles south of Detroit in Flat Rock, Michigan, and builds one car: the Ford Mustang. Every version of the seventh-generation model comes down the same line, from the 315 hp 2.3-litre EcoBoost to the 795 hp supercharged Dark Horse SC, in both coupe and convertible form.

The site has changed hands more than most. Ford opened it in 1972 as the Michigan Casting Center, an iron foundry, and closed it in 1981. Mazda bought the property and opened its first American car factory there in 1987, building the MX-6 and the Ford Probe. Ford took a 50 percent stake in 1992, and the plant ran for two decades as the joint venture AutoAlliance International before Ford assumed full ownership in September 2012 and gave it its current name.

Mustang production arrived in 2005, when Ford moved the line from the Dearborn Assembly Plant, and the current car has been built at Flat Rock since May 2023. The plant has around 2.9 million square feet of production space. One Mustang variant is not built here: the track-focused GTD is assembled by Multimatic in Markham, Ontario.
