The Hansalpur complex sits on 640 acres near Hansalpur Becharaji, in the Mandal taluka of Ahmedabad district in Gujarat. It is four separate car plants on one site: plant A opened in February 2017, plant B in January 2019, plant C in April 2021 and plant D in July 2026. Cumulative investment runs to about INR 253 billion.
Plant D took the site’s capacity to a million cars a year, from 750,000 before, and Maruti Suzuki describes it as India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility in a single location and the first Suzuki manufacturing location anywhere to reach that figure. The complex had built five million cars in total by May 2026.
The ownership was unusual for most of that time. Suzuki Motor Corporation built and ran the site through Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a company it owned outright rather than through its Indian listed arm, and Maruti Suzuki bought the output at cost. Suzuki Motor Gujarat was merged into Maruti Suzuki with effect from 1 December 2025, and the plants are now directly part of the listed company.
Plant A builds the Baleno, plant B the Fronx and the Swift, and plant C the Fronx and the e Vitara, Suzuki’s first battery-electric car. Plant D opened with the e Vitara, most of it earmarked for export to Japan and Europe. The same car is built here for Toyota as the Urban Cruiser, which is how an Indian-built electric SUV came to finish fifth in Norway’s new-car ranking in August 2026.
