Overview

The BMW iX5 60 xDrive is the fully electric version of the fifth-generation X5, sharing its CLAR-based, Neue Klasse-influenced body and two-row-only cabin with the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid X5 while carrying BMW’s “i” badge for battery power. Two motors drive all four wheels for 570 hp and 805 Nm, with a 4.6-second 0-100 km/h time and a 210 km/h electronically limited top speed.

The iX5 carries the largest battery BMW has fitted to a production car: 141 kWh in European trim, rated for up to 845 km of WLTP range, or 144 kWh in US trim, rated at 700 km under the EPA cycle. Peak DC fast charging reaches 460 kW, enough to take the pack from 10 to 80% in about 22 minutes, or add 274 km of range in a 10-minute stop. At 2,825 kg, it is also the heaviest BMW built to date.

Inside, the iX5 shares the X5’s new iDrive X interior: a 17.9-inch central touchscreen replaces the previous rotary controller, an optional 14.6-inch front-passenger display carries over from the 7 Series, and a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision strip stands in for a conventional instrument cluster. BMW has confirmed a hydrogen fuel-cell iX5, co-developed with Toyota, for 2028, targeting a 750 km range and under five minutes to refuel, alongside a planned electric M Performance version.

Production starts in December 2026, with order books opening October 8, 2026 and sales beginning March 6, 2027. German pricing starts at EUR102,800 ($112,000); the US price of $81,250 is notably lower once local taxes and incentives are factored in.
