The Dolphin G is BYD’s B-segment plug-in hybrid hatchback for European and export markets. First announced in May 2026, its full specifications were revealed in June, with deliveries starting over the summer and a full launch in the autumn.
Platform. Length is 4,160 mm, width 1,825 mm, on a 2,610 mm wheelbase, making it shorter than the all-electric Dolphin (4,290 mm) that sits beside it in BYD’s range.
Powertrain. The DM-i plug-in hybrid uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (95 hp) and a front electric motor, with a 180 km/h top speed and combined range of more than 1,000 km. The entry version makes 175 hp and 210 Nm with a 7.4 kWh battery (40 km WLTP electric range); higher trims step up to 212 hp with an 18 kWh battery and 90 to 105 km of electric range.
Design and cabin. The exterior has stretched headlights, semi-hidden door handles, a floating roofline, a single-bar taillight, and 16 or 18-inch wheels. Inside there is a 12.8-inch touchscreen, vehicle-to-load output, a panoramic roof, a 360-degree camera system, and a three-spoke steering wheel. The boot holds 425 litres, expanding to 1,225 litres.
Prices in Italy and Spain run from 25,000 to 30,800 euros.
