The Hongqi G919 is Hongqi’s first body-on-frame off-road SUV, built to rival the Mercedes-Benz G-Class in layout while running a fully electrified drivetrain. It measures 5,135 mm long on a 2,900 mm wheelbase, with a body-on-frame chassis rather than the unibody construction used on Hongqi’s other SUVs.
Power comes from a range-extended EV (EREV) system: a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine acts purely as a generator, feeding four independent electric motors, one per wheel, for a combined 620 kW (843 hp) and 1,320 Nm of torque. Hongqi quotes 280 km of CLTC electric-only range before the engine needs to run, and 1,350 km of combined range with a full tank and charge. The four-motor layout allows software-controlled torque vectoring to each wheel independently, on top of three mechanical locking differentials across the front, rear and centre axles.
Off-road hardware includes air suspension, all-terrain tyres, recovery hooks, and a roof-mounted lidar unit alongside roof rails built to carry equipment. Hongqi has not yet detailed the cabin or released full interior specifications.
The G919 is set to go on sale in China in the second half of 2026; Hongqi has not announced pricing or confirmed any export markets.
