A pair of shoes from 1997 decided the colour of this car. IM Motors opened pre-sales of the new L6 on 18 August with a limited edition developed with the footwear designer Jimmy Choo, and the blue on it is the blue of the satin shoes Choo made for Princess Diana.
What ¥244,900 buys
The Prof. Jimmy Choo Bespoke Limited Edition comes in two versions, at ¥244,900 and ¥259,900 ($36,300 and $38,500). Pre-sale incentives take those to ¥234,900 and ¥249,900 ($34,800 and $37,000), which is the pair of numbers most of the coverage has quoted.
Inside there is blue pearlescent leather, natural mother-of-pearl on the door panels, embroidery, wool mats and the designer’s signature on the brake calipers. Crystal work covers the rear badge, the camera housings on the front wings and the console keys. Six exterior colours are offered.
The hardware is standard L6
Nothing mechanical separates the limited edition from the car it is based on. Both versions are rear-wheel drive: a 245 kW motor with a 76 kWh battery and 725 km of CLTC range, or a 300 kW motor with 93 kWh and 850 km. The architecture is 800 volts and peak charging is quoted at 396 kW, which IM claims returns 580 km in 15 minutes. The all-wheel-drive Ultra, with 500 kW and a 103 kWh pack, is part of the regular range and not offered here.
The standard L6 has guide prices of ¥229,900 to ¥279,900 ($34,100 to $41,500) across three trims, or ¥219,900 to ¥269,900 after the same incentives.
How to get one
IM released 100 of the 1,000 slots on the day pre-sales opened, then 100 more at 10:00 each morning from 19 to 27 August. Final on-sale prices have not been announced, and pre-sale figures in China routinely move at launch.
The IM LS8 is a full-size extended-range electric SUV, IM Motors' flagship. Four trims run from a 308 hp rear-drive version with 355 km of CLTC electric range to a 523 hp all-wheel-drive version with 430 km, plus a 1.5-litre range extender for up to 1,605 km combined. Prices start from ¥249,800.
