MG 07 launches at $16,100, under pre-sale

MG set official prices for the 07 at ¥108,900 to ¥159,900 ($16,100 to $23,600), and every electric trim came in below the pre-sale figure quoted in July - ¥9,000 off the 67 kWh cars and ¥6,000 off the 91 kWh cars. Two plug-in hybrids join below them, with 245 km of electric range rather than the 185 km shown earlier. See the MG 07 model page.

MG has set official prices for the 07 at ¥108,900 to ¥159,900 ($16,100 to $23,600), and every one of the five electric trims costs less than the pre-sale price quoted in July. Two plug-in hybrids join the range underneath them.

What each trim costs now

A launch offer takes a further ¥3,000 off every trim, so the range currently runs from ¥105,900 to ¥156,900 ($15,600 to $23,200), with another ¥3,000 available on a trade-in. Those are promotional figures with no stated end date; the list prices above are what the car costs.

Undercutting a pre-sale price is normal practice in China, where the pre-sale number functions as a ceiling that gauges demand before the maker commits. MG reported 21,000 reservations in the first 20 hours of pre-sales, which are small refundable deposits rather than orders. Cutting the price at launch is how a maker converts those deposits, and the size of the cut is a reasonable read on how firm the pre-sale interest turned out to be.

The hybrid is the new entry point

The plug-in hybrid was shown in July without a price, and its specification has moved since. It pairs a 1.5-litre engine rated at 82 kW (110 hp) with a 152 kW (204 hp) drive motor and a 30 kWh CATL battery, and MG now quotes 245 km of CLTC electric range rather than the 185 km shown at the pre-sale, for a combined 1,745 km on a full tank and a full charge. Fuel consumption with the battery depleted is quoted at 2.91 l/100 km. The pack takes 3C charging, 15 minutes from 30 to 80 percent.

At ¥108,900 the Hybrid 245 Comfort is now the cheapest way into the 07, ¥8,000 below the cheapest electric version.

Deliveries

The 650 km electric cars and the hybrids start reaching customers at the end of August. The 845 km versions, which use the 91 kWh CATL pack and the 800-volt architecture, follow in October. The electric specifications are otherwise unchanged from the pre-sale: a 67 kWh semi-solid-state pack from QingTao Energy on the 610 and 650 cars, lidar on every trim except the two Comfort versions, and Momenta’s R7 driver-assistance software.
