SAIC launched the MG 4X on 27 May 2026, opening full sales in China. The headline feature is the SolidCore battery - a semi-solid-state unit developed by SAIC’s battery subsidiary SAIC Qingtao - available at mainstream prices.
Platform - Nebula, developed by SAIC. Dimensions: 4,500 mm long, 1,849 mm wide, 1,621 mm tall, 2,735 mm wheelbase. Rear-wheel drive only.
Powertrain - single electric motor on the rear axle, in two outputs: 168 hp or 201 hp.
Battery options - two chemistries. The top-spec version uses a 53.9 kWh SolidCore semi-solid-state battery from SAIC Qingtao, with a claimed 510 km CLTC range. The standard version uses a 64.2 kWh LFP battery from CATL, with 610 km CLTC range. Semi-solid-state cells offer higher energy density and improved thermal stability compared to conventional lithium-ion; SAIC Qingtao has been developing them for several years.
Exterior - a closed grille with a backlit MG logo, a full-width DRL strip, and 18-inch wheels. The front bumper is sportier than the MG4.
Interior - 10.25-inch driver display, 15.6-inch central screen, a cockpit layout co-developed with Oppo. The Smart version adds an NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) highway driving system and L2+ ADAS.
Pricing in China - from 92,800¥ ($13,700) during the launch period; standard pricing from 99,800¥ ($14,700) to 116,800¥ ($17,200). No European pricing or timeline has been announced.
