Polestar 4 SUV gets a rear window, costs less

Polestar has added a second body to the Polestar 4 range, and it reverses the car's most argued-about feature: the SUV has a conventional rear window and mirror. It also has 530 litres of boot space, standard roof rails and up to 630 km WLTP, and it undercuts the coupe in Germany, the UK and Australia. See the Polestar 4 SUV model page.

Polestar has launched a second body style for the Polestar 4, and the thing that separates it from the existing car is a piece of glass. The Polestar 4 SUV has a conventional rear window and a conventional rear-view mirror, both standard, in place of the solid rear panel and camera feed that the coupe has carried since 2023.

The car that adds the window is also the cheaper one. In Germany the SUV starts at 57,900 euros ($63,100) for the rear motor and 65,900 euros ($71,800) for the dual motor, with a Performance pack at 76,300 euros ($83,200). UK prices open at 54,750 pounds ($69,500) on the road, which Polestar puts at 2,000 pounds ($2,500) below the equivalent saloon. In Australia it is 73,900 dollars ($48,800) before on-road costs against 78,500 dollars ($51,800) for the coupe, a gap of 4,600 dollars. The three figures sit on different bases, since the German prices include VAT and the Australian ones exclude on-road costs, but the direction is the same in each market.

What the body change buys

Boot space is 530 litres measured to the seatbacks and 655 litres to the inner roof, or 1,665 litres with the rear seats folded. Rear headroom is up 2.5 cm on the coupe. Full-length roof rails are standard and rated for a 100 kg dynamic load, which is not something the coupe’s roofline allows at all, so the SUV can carry a bike rack or a roof box where the other car cannot.

The mechanical package is unchanged

Both bodies run the same 100 kWh battery and the same two drivetrains: a 200 kW (268 hp) rear motor with 343 Nm, or a 400 kW (536 hp) dual-motor all-wheel drive with 686 Nm. Range is up to 630 km WLTP on the rear motor and 600 km on the dual motor, and 0-100 km/h takes 7.3 or 3.9 seconds. Charging peaks at 200 kW DC. The platform is the Geely group’s SEA architecture in both cases.

Both are built at Renault Korea’s Busan plant in South Korea, where the Polestar 4 has been assembled under contract since 2025. Orders are open now, with first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

The coupe is not being replaced, and Polestar has not said whether the two bodies will be sold side by side indefinitely. The rear window it removed became the car’s defining feature, to the point that owners reported denting the tailgate they could not see behind them. Restoring the glass on a second body, at a lower price, is as close to an answer as the company has given.
