Stellantis will invest about 4,000 crore rupees (~$418 million) in India over the next three years, Shailesh Hazela, CEO and managing director of Stellantis India, told Business Standard. The money goes to localisation, customer experience and a 12-product roadmap for Jeep and Citroën: seven new models and five major upgrades. The first launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. The company aims to triple annual sales to about 45,000 cars within three years.
What the 12 products are
Most of the roadmap sits in SUV segments. It also includes an MPV and a premium pickup. Stellantis plans to offer internal-combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions, depending on customer demand and the economics of each product. Hazela did not name any model.
Where the money goes
The 4,000 crore rupees (~$418 million) comes on top of the 11,000 crore rupees (~$1.1 billion) Stellantis announced several years ago, which is funding Jeep, Citroën and the plants. Localisation is the main target of the new money: Jeep models are 70-75% localised today and the company wants about 90%. Citroën is already above 90%. Last month Stellantis took full ownership of its Tiruvallur plant, previously a joint venture with the CK Birla Group’s Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation.
An export base
Stellantis ships right-hand-drive cars from Tiruvallur to West Asia, Africa and Indonesia, and Jeeps to Japan and Australia. Citroën vehicles now go to five or six countries and Jeep to three. India also exports engines and transmissions, including to markets across Europe. The plan adds left-hand-drive versions of the Indian launches, which would open more than 50 countries. Hazela said there is no fixed split between domestic sales and exports; each market is assessed year by year.
Dealers
Stellantis has around 300 sales and service points in India, about 80% of them in the Brand House format where one dealer sells and services both Jeep and Citroën. It is looking at Tier-II, III and some Tier-IV towns, without a target for network size, and at shared and mobile service facilities.
