Mercedes-Benz’s Bremen plant sits on the Sebaldsbrück site that Borgward first built in 1938. Hanomag took it over after Borgward’s 1961 collapse, and Mercedes-Benz acquired full control in 1972, since when it has grown into the company’s second-largest plant worldwide by output, trailing only Beijing Benz.
The plant has built the C-Class continuously since 1993 and serves as its lead site, coordinating production standards across the C-Class’s other assembly locations globally. It also builds the CLE coupe and cabriolet, the GLC and GLK SUVs, the SL Roadster and Maybach SL, and the electric EQE sedan. Around 11,000 people work there, producing roughly 324,000 vehicles a year; the plant marked its 10 millionth car in June 2024.
