Aion is the mainstream electric-vehicle brand of GAC Group, one of China’s state-owned automakers. It began in 2017 as GAC New Energy Automobile before being spun off and renamed Aion in November 2020, and it grew quickly to become one of China’s top-selling EV brands alongside BYD and Tesla.
The lineup covers compact and mid-size electric SUVs and sedans, including the Aion Y, Aion S, and the Aion V compact SUV, sold in China and increasingly in export markets across Southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe under the unchanged Aion name. GAC separates its premium EV ambitions into Hyptec, a sibling brand launched in 2022 that shares underlying technology but runs its own model range and retail network.
