Turin car maker from the early motoring era, closed in 1934 and revived by DR Automobiles in 2025. The new Itala sells SUVs based on GAC Trumpchi models with Italian styling and trim, starting with the Itala 35.

Itala was one of Turin’s early car makers, founded in 1904 by Matteo Ceirano. It is best remembered for the 1907 Peking to Paris race, won by an Itala 35/45 HP driven by Prince Scipione Borghese, and it stopped building cars in 1934. DR Automobiles, the Molise company that sells Chinese cars under its own badges, bought the rights to the name in 2025. The revival is part of Historic Italian Brands, a project led by DR founder Massimo Di Risio that also brings back O.S.C.A..
The new models are SUVs from GAC’s Trumpchi range with their own front and rear styling, cabin materials and trim. The Itala 35, a compact crossover based on the GS3 and styled with Italdesign, came first. The Itala 56, based on the Emkoo, is due in autumn 2026, and the seven-seat Itala 61, based on the GS8, sits at the top of the range.
Assembly is planned at Macchia d’Isernia in Molise, where Fabbrica Italia, a new company in the same project, is building two facilities for Itala and O.S.C.A. The cars are sold through a separate showroom network: the first opened in Turin in May 2026, and the target is 50 across Italy by the end of 2026.
