The Alpine A290 is the French performance brand’s first production electric vehicle, launched in 2024. It sits on the AmpR Small platform, which it shares with the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and the Nissan Micra EV. Alpine re-engineers the suspension, brakes, and steering for driving engagement rather than comfort - wider track, stiffer dampers, and a direct steering ratio distinguish it from its platform siblings.
Two power outputs are available, both front-wheel drive. The GT Premium uses a 130 kW (180 hp) motor from a 52 kWh NMC battery. The GTS steps up to 160 kW (220 hp) and pairs those extra horses with 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tyres and red brake calipers. The GTS covers 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, placing it in genuine hot hatch territory. Both variants return around 380 km of WLTP range.
The A290 is produced at Alpine’s Dieppe factory in Normandy, making it one of the few performance EVs built in France. The cabin takes clear cues from Alpine’s motorsport background - the A290 Rallye competition variant, developed for customer racing programmes, shares the road car’s architecture and has been used as the basis for branded collaborations including a special edition with Lacoste.
