The smart #2 is the brand’s return to the ultra-compact city car that built its reputation, after the current lineup shifted toward larger #1 and #3 crossovers under smart’s joint-venture ownership by Geely and Mercedes-Benz. World premiere is set for October at the Paris Motor Show, with European sales starting in spring 2027.
At 2.79 meters long, the #2 is built on ECA (Electric Compact Architecture), a platform Geely developed specifically for compact city EVs. smart says the car keeps the ForTwo’s signature maneuverability, with an identical 6.95-meter turning circle to the outgoing model despite the new underpinnings.
The #2 uses a 35.7 kWh battery for up to 300 km of WLTP range, with DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. smart has not detailed motor output for the #2 ahead of the October reveal.
European pricing is expected to start below 22,500 euros (about $24,300), which would make the #2 one of the most affordable EVs in its class. The launch marks a strategic return for smart to the ultra-compact segment that defined the brand almost 30 years ago, after several years of larger, crossover-led models.
