Overview

The Electra E7 is a five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that Buick sells only in China, where it is badged 至境 E7. It went on sale on 22 April 2026 in three trims at ¥159,900, ¥179,900 and ¥199,900 ($23,700 to $29,600), and collected 10,797 firm orders in the first 90 minutes. SAIC-GM builds it in Wuhan on Xiao Yao, the new-energy platform the joint venture developed locally rather than importing from Detroit.

Power comes from what Buick calls the Zhenlong Plug-in Hybrid Pro system: a petrol engine, a single 165 kW front motor and a 32.6 kWh battery. Two engines are offered. The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre makes 72 kW on its own and 237 kW (318 hp) as a system, good for 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. The turbocharged 1.5-litre makes 115 kW and 230 Nm alone, 280 kW (375 hp) and 560 Nm as a system, and 7.0 seconds. Both drive the front wheels. Electric range is 235 km CLTC and the combined figure is 1,630 km; once the battery is depleted the car is rated at 5.1 litres per 100 km. Charging runs 30 to 80 percent in about 15 minutes, and there is 6 kW of vehicle-to-load output.

Inside there are three displays: an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch centre touchscreen and a 15.6-inch screen that folds down from the roof for the rear seats, plus a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display. All four outer seats are heated and ventilated and the fronts add massage. A roof-mounted lidar feeds a driver-assistance system running Momenta’s R6 model, and the suspension uses predictive continuous damping control that reads the road 500 times a second.

The body measures 4,850 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,676 mm tall on a 2,850 mm wheelbase, with the shield grille and full-width light bar Buick now uses across the Electra line. In August 2026, when GM and SAIC extended their joint venture to 2047, the E7 was named as the first premium Chinese-built model in the export programme, with shipments from October 2026.

SAIC-GM has named the Electra E7 as the first premium Chinese-built model in its export programme, with shipments starting in October 2026 to the Middle East, Africa, South America, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific. The United States is excluded, because of tariffs and the American restrictions on connected vehicles from China.
