Overview

The Defender 90 is the short-wheelbase, three-door version of the range. At 4,583 mm long on a 2,587 mm wheelbase it is 435 mm shorter than the 110 in both measurements, which is what gives it the stubby rear overhang and the steeper departure angle. Width and height match the longer cars at 2,008 mm and 1,969 mm.

Inside it seats five, or six with the optional jump seat between the front pair, an arrangement Land Rover revived from the original Defender. Boot space behind the rear bench is 297 litres, rising to 1,263 litres with the seats down, so the 90 trades load volume for manoeuvrability rather than matching the 110.

The UK engine range is the same three units the 90 shares with the rest of the family, minus the plug-in hybrid. The D250 gives 249 PS (246 hp) and 570 Nm and reaches 62 mph in 8.0 seconds; the D350 takes the same 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel to 350 PS (345 hp) and 700 Nm and does it in 6.2 seconds. The P380 petrol, introduced with the July 2026 update, is a 3.0-litre straight-six making 380 PS (375 hp) and 550 Nm. All three use 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic with high and low ranges.

Prices open at GBP 58,655 for a 90 S with the D250, the cheapest way into a Defender of any size, and run to GBP 92,635 for the X and the Vertex specification. Hard Top commercial versions sit alongside them from GBP 60,770. Wading depth is 900 mm, as on the rest of the range.
