The second-generation smart #1 launched in China on August 6, 2026, more than 200 changes into a refresh smart bills as the biggest since the model’s 2022 debut. The headline change is an 800V silicon-carbide platform, now standard across the range rather than reserved for a flagship trim, paired with a new 16-in-1 integrated electric drive unit.
A single rear motor makes 328 hp and 320 Nm, moving the #1 from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The 61.52 kWh LFP battery is rated at 535 km on the CLTC cycle, and 6C charging takes the pack from 10 to 80% in a claimed 12 minutes - fast for a car in this price bracket, where 800V hardware is usually reserved for pricier models.
Two trims share identical powertrain specs: the 535 Max and 535 Ultra, launched at ¥149,900 (~$22,300) and ¥169,900 (~$25,200) (list prices ¥152,900 (~$22,700) and ¥172,900 (~$25,700)). The difference is driver-assist hardware - the Ultra comes standard with a roof-mounted lidar, an Nvidia Orin Y chip and smart’s Geely-developed G-ASD H5 assisted-driving system, which are optional upgrades on the Max.
The #1 sits below the larger #3 crossover and #5 SUV in smart’s China-market lineup, and remains distinct from the more compact, two-seat #2 due in Europe from spring 2027. smart has not said when the refreshed #1 will reach markets outside China.
