Overview

The bZ4X is Toyota’s electric midsize SUV and the first car the company built on e-TNGA, the platform it developed with Subaru for battery-electric models. It measures 4,690 mm long on a 2,850 mm wheelbase and holds 452 litres behind the rear seats. Subaru sells the same car as the Solterra, assembled on the same line. Toyota launched it in 2022 and reworked it for the 2026 model year, which is the specification described here.

The range now opens with a 57.7 kWh gross pack, 54 kWh of it usable, driving a 123 kW front motor rated at 167 PS or 165 hp, for 444 km WLTP and 8.6 seconds to 100 km/h. The volume version uses a 73.1 kWh pack, 69 kWh usable, and a 165 kW front motor at 224 PS or 221 hp, for 569 km WLTP on 18-inch wheels and 7.4 seconds. The all-wheel-drive version adds a rear motor for a combined 252 kW, 343 PS or 338 hp, 516 km WLTP and 5.1 seconds. All three charge at up to 150 kW on DC, which Toyota rates at 28 minutes from 10 to 80%, and the AC charger is now an 11 kW unit rather than the 7.6 kW one fitted to the launch cars.

Inside, the update replaced the 12.3-inch centre screen with a 14-inch display and removed the plastic frame that used to separate the steering wheel from the driver’s instrument screen, which sits high on the dashboard and is read over the wheel rather than through it. The gear selector is a rotary dial on the console, and the cabin keeps two physical rotary temperature controls at the base of the screen. The photographs on this page are Toyota’s own from the 2022 launch cars and show the earlier 12.3-inch layout and framed instrument display.

Externally the 2026 car has a new front bumper and light treatment, and the black plastic overfenders that drew criticism at launch can now be ordered painted in the body colour on some paint choices. German list prices run from €42,990 for the 57.7 kWh version to €50,990 for the all-wheel-drive car, and Toyota Germany has been running purchase and leasing campaigns well below those figures. The bZ4X was Norway’s second best-selling model in August 2026 with 630 registrations, behind the Volkswagen ID.4 and ahead of the BMW iX3. Toyota’s smaller electric SUV in Europe is the Urban Cruiser, and China gets a separate electric SUV, the Highlander EV. Full brand background is on the Toyota page.

Twenty-inch wheels cut the last two figures to 511 km and 468 km. DC charging peaks at 150 kW, which Toyota rates at 28 minutes from 10 to 80%.
Where is the Toyota bZ4X built?
At Toyota's Motomachi plant in Toyota City, Aichi, on a dedicated electric line it shares with the Subaru Solterra, the sister car developed jointly by the two companies on the same e-TNGA platform.
What is the difference between the Toyota bZ4X and the bZ4X Touring?
